OCC Parugan Children's Outreach

Last June 4-7, 2013, Emmanuel's Christian Family Life Ministries conducted the Operation Christmas Child Program. It is a program wherein Children are taught about Jesus Christ and they will be receiving donated gifts in shoe boxes.

During these days, classes have already started so it is very hard for us, the Sunday School teachers, to compromise with the schedule of the kids. We weren't able to make them go to church for almost a week to attend the teaching program anymore. But this didn't stop us either from pursuing this activity.

Instead of making the kids go to us, what we did is to go to them. Our head Sunday school teacher assigned us to different places to teach, some have partners, some didn't, depending on the number of children we are going to teach.

Since I only have less than ten students, I was assigned to go alone in Sitio Parugan. I didn't know if I will consider myself blessed  that time because the venue where I will be teaching is the house of our Senior Pastor. I just had the feeling that I will feel like a teacher undergoing a class observation with our Senior Pastor as the supervisor who will observe me while I am teaching. That scenario actually happened but it was not that scary as I thought it would be anyway. Our Senior Pastor was just watching me for quite some time and will also be leaving after a few minutes, so I didn't feel like someone was observing me anymore.

After every meeting with the kids, we, the teachers, will have to go back to the church to meet each other also so that we can talk about and organize the graduation and gift giving program for the kids at the end of the week. We were also able to make this a bonding time for us since we were able to tell stories of our experiences with the kids. I was not surprised by how unique our experiences can be because of the fact that we are teaching different kids in different environment. So the stories of every teacher were really something interesting.

But although we had different experiences in different places with different kids, I know that we share the same goals and aspirations while doing this activity. We got to know kids better because we were able to know where they live and how they live. We share the same feeling of nervousness the very first day that we are going to face the children that mostly, we never knew before. We all heard different life stories from the children. We all learned how to love kids who didn't know Jesus Christ even if we didn't know them that much. We all sacrificed our time and effort all throughout this activity. And most especially, we learned that even kids have to know and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. And at the end, we know that we share the same rewarding feeling that we were able to share the love and salvation that we also received from God to these kids.

What we did is not really that hard and sacrificial unlike the others. Four days isn't enough to really make this kids know Jesus Christ better, but we know that we did what the Lord has told us to do and we were able to plant seeds to these children's heart and one day, we will see them growing and bearing fruits. :)

Loving your Enemy

Matthew 5:43-44 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. The first step to love our enemies is to pray for them. Jesus said, ‘pray for those who persecute you.’ If we pray for our enemies, something mysterious happens inside us. It is like pouring icy cold water to your sizzling emotions. When we continue to pray goodness for our enemies everyday, one day you’ll realize that your anger has gone. And once we have removed our anger, we can start doing good things for them such as: Forgiving and forgetting about their sins against us. Forgiveness is an act of the will of the heart. And Christian forgiveness means that when we forgive, we also forget. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Reaching out to them. We do not just forgive our enemies, we also take steps to be closer to them. Real forgiveness demands restoration of relationship. Just like how God has forgiven us a

There is no Fear in the Light

Psalms 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? Fear is darkness . And there is only one solution to darkness, it is LIGHT. There can only be darkness when there is an absence of light. Same with our fears, we can overcome all of it using the liberating light of God. The Lord is our light and our salvation, whom shall we fear? Fear is controlled by our doubts but our Faith controls certainty. Fear sees darkness, while faith sees light. While fear sees wickedness, faith sees the goodness of the Lord. Nothing and no one can stop the light of God. So whenever we have the light of God, there can never be a shadow of darkness in our lives.   Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12) If we obey His commandments, we follow His examples and seek Him first than anything, surely that His pr

Godly Silence

Psalm 46:10 BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD. IMPORTANCE OF SILENCE In Psalms, God instructs us to be silent and to stop or pause to see how He works. It is important that we learn when to pause, and start listening to God. Because in Silence, God speaks to us. Why do we have to be silent? In Silence, we feel God’s presence. We hear God’s voice. We cannot hear the voice of the Spirit if we let the noise of this world and our own mind keep on going. Especially in times of troubles, what we need the most is to be silent, pray and talk to God and we’ll feel better and at peace with Him. In Silence, we unite with nature, we refresh our soul and we grow. See the trees, the flowers, the stars and the moon, see how they move in silence. They move beautifully. In silence we can also move beautifully and gracefully, carefully guided by the Holy Spirit. In silence, we see what God can do. We don’t just feel Him, we see how great His works are. God moves in the most unexpe
